How to get your business ready for high season in Puerto Vallarta

By Belén Lamendola, founder & creative director of

High season in Puerto Vallarta runs from November to April. What almost nobody says is that it is not won in December: it is won in September and October, while there is still time to fix what is broken.

November arrives loaded. Its first two weeks bring the Vallarta Grill Festival, the International Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament on the Marina Vallarta boardwalk, and the start of the Gourmet Festival. Three waves of visitors with money and a tight schedule. A business that is not ready in October catches none of them.

1. Search for yourself the way a tourist does

Open your phone and look yourself up on Google the way someone who just landed would. Look at your listing, your last post, your unanswered reviews, your two-year-old photos. That is your business to anyone who does not know you yet.

The venue itself is seen by people who already decided to come. This is seen by people who are deciding, and they decide in minutes.

2. Produce now, not in December

Producing content in the middle of the season is expensive and comes out badly: the kitchen is full, the rooms are occupied and nobody has time. October is when the place is calm and looks immaculate. What gets photographed now is what you will publish for the next six months.

3. Both languages, properly

If your high-season client comes from the United States or Canada, your communication has to exist in English. Not translated at the last minute: written in English. A menu, a listing and a WhatsApp message in the buyer's language remove friction at the exact moment of deciding.

4. Decide who answers

High season breaks good businesses for a silly reason: messages arrive and nobody answers them. Before November, decide who replies, how fast and with what. A message answered in five minutes is worth more than any campaign.

5. Leave measurement in place

If you do not know how many messages you got last December, you will not know whether this December was better. Measurement gets installed before the season starts, not halfway through, and gets reviewed every week while it lasts.

And when April ends

Low season is not the punishment: it is when you build the local clientele that carries you while the hotel next door sits empty. A business that only speaks to tourists works half the year for nobody.

In short

High season does not reward whoever posts the most in December. It rewards whoever arrived ready in November: findable, with their own material, in both languages, with someone answering and with the numbers in plain sight.
